Why this part is important?

There are two main reasons why you might want to read this part. The first reason is of course that you are interested in the Netherlands. What are important places, what are Dutch customs, what are important festivals, what can we tell about working in the Netherlands, and so on. These are all questions that will be answered.

The second reason is that you may have to do an exam on this part. There are official educational institutions that teach this subject. What you learn here can be seen as an important support. In fact, all topics of the official exam are discussed. The topics we discuss are part an introduction to the Dutch Society. The official name is “Kennismaking Nederlandse Maatschappij (KNM)”. Have fun going through all the parts.

Hint for when you learn everything for the exam

The biggest mistake people make when learning is trying to do too much in one day. That’s not good because then you quickly forget the knowledge. Do not read more than one chapter per day. Do the questions and repeat the complete chapters every two weeks. You will see that everything will be remembered well.

An impression

Here is a video that gives an impression of the Netherlands. This is an official video that covers most of the topics. Bye means of the icons in the lower right corner you can see the text in your own language.

KNM

The topics we discuss here are part an Introduction to Dutch Society. The offical name is “Kennismaking Nederlandse Maatschappij (KNM)”. We now show a short example to see what such an exam looks like.

This is only a part of a video that you can see entirety on YouTube. Like this example, there are e are many commercial organizations that offer sample exams on YouTube.

We make the following comments:

  1. If you are not yet good at Dutch, you cannot understand the questions.
You will therefore first have to take language lessons to be able to speak and understand enough of the Dutch language.
  2. At the end of each section, we provide questions that may appear on an exam. Of course now you will see the questions in your own language.
